If You’re a Polygamist, Texas Has Your Number…and Your Kids

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

“The law is the law and no child will be hurt in Texas.  Of course, if we have to sever an arm while pulling them away from their parents, so be it.”

OK, a little over the top but not so much.  After discovering that the original call to authorities from the young lady who was being abused was a hoax and that the underage children forced to marry older men were actually of legal age, you might have thought the state of Texas would immediately begin returning the children to their parents.  There being no actual grounds for legal action and all.

But no.  Texas is going to find some legality for their actions and take this to the Texas Supreme Court.  What started as a child welfare issue will now become a defense of some misguided pride on the part of the state.  Hold on to your bonnets – this tangle will be a hoot.  Except for those little kids and their families.

Who Gives This Woman to this, this…..John McCain

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

You had to laugh with John McCain and Ellen DeGeneres when after hitting him with some honest straightforward punches about gay rights and gay marriage she asked him if he would walk her down the aisle.

The interview on her show was riveting and some of the most honest dialogue yet in this election.   There were no softballs.  Watch it here:

A-Hunting We (in the Media) Will Go….

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

Give me a break.

This latest dust-up over what Hillary Clinton said about the timing of Bobby Kennedy’s assassination is ridiculous.  To say that she was malicious in bringing it up or even showed poor judgement by mentioning it is another attempt by the media to create a story where none exists.  Even the Kennedys have said they don’t find it offensive.

So what’s this all about?  Sales.  It’s about sending more visitors to websites, reaching more viewers on the evening news, selling more newspapers and magazines.

I am tired of hearing about how every primary is the crucial one that will put Obama over the top.  Wasn’t it going to end in Texas back in early March?  Every primary since then has reportedly been the one that will decide the winner.  When the media sensed we were tiring of the whole thing, they did an about face and asked US when it would all end? It does seem like the primaries will never end and it is because the media has (Donald) trumped each one up – how many more delegates does the candidate need?  Quick, get the whiteboard – zzzzzzzzz.

Wii are (not) Fit

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

The Wii Fit has arrived in our house!

This is from a mom who has no time:  self-employed and kids make for time-management hell.  Not to mention, I hate to work out!!!!!  I am sure that there are others in the same boat as well.

I have been “on board” now for 3 days, missed 1.  It is really cool as there is no pressure and the trainer (you can choose male or female) doesn’t yell at you to kill yourself.  It registered my body fat and height and determined that I was indeed overweight.  I set a goal to lose 2.5% of body fat (10 lbs.) in 2 months; I need to be in the 22 percentile range for my height.

I like the concept and the workout is fun and the “trainer” is there to guide you – no drill sergeant.  The games break out as follows: Yoga helps to improve your posture and breathing, balance games build strength and posture, aerobics (hula hoop, step and running in place) are good for heart, lungs and circulation, and strength games include slalom skiing and ski jump (great for butt and legs).  You are “judged” based on your balance and performance in the games.  The better you perform; the more new games you unlock in the various categories.

My kids do the “games” with me for support and it makes it fun for everyone!

I’ll keep you posted on my progress…..
