The Bachelorette: Episodes Three and Four

Chad square

The Bachelorette had a two-day (4 hour!) special this week and I think we should just change the name to The Bachelorette: Chad Edition. How the show will continue to succeed without Chad is beyond me. I mean, don’t we watch the show for the drama? Doesn’t everyone fast forward through the one-on-one romantic helicopter dates and push play when it gets to the house where the testosterone levels are through the roof … literally? I’m just gonna say it, I was a Chad fan. Not because he’s a meat head. Not because he bullies the other men except for the Canadian protein-shake-drinking-weightlifting guy, Daniel. But I was a Chad fan because he brought the drama. He is what the entire show has been about this whole season, so far. The storyline involved Chad AT.ALL.TIMES. He’s the guy everyone in the house was talking about. Any time there was a The Bachelorette preview on the TV, it was about Chad and what to expect Chad to do “next week on the Bachelorette”. Let's face it, Chad was the show's star. Yes, Jojo is the frontman but Chad is right behind her in the darkness (with a plate of meat), giving the show the ratings it needs.

"Jojo is the frontman, but Chad is right behind her in the darkness; usually with a plate of meat; giving the show the ratings it needs. Was he actually eating a whole raw sweet potato?"

"

So spoiler alert, Chad was kicked off during a two-on-one date with Alex and Jojo. During these two episodes Chad argued with Alex, Evan, Jordan, Grant, and pretty much the rest of the guys. If you want to get air-time on TV simply ask Chad why he’s there, or hand him some salami. Was he eating a whole raw sweet potato?

Chad got physical with Evan, sorta. Evan, writing his death wish, decided to make fun of Chad on stage during their group date. I had to rewind twice to see who was telling the truth, Evan or Chad. And I have to say, surprisingly, Chad was telling the truth. Ok so when Evan was heading back to his seat, Chad gets up to take his turn on the stage and the two must cross paths in the same aisle of narrow theater seats. Chad raises up a hand telling Evan to wait so he can exit the row first but Evan continues heading to his seat, grabs Chad’s hand and pushes it down and appears to try to push Chad to the side. Something Evan denies. Chad then grabs Evan by the back of the shirt and rips it! Dramz!! That all happened at the group date and Evan ended up getting the group date rose … as well as an awkward kiss with Jojo.

"Chad stomped around the forest at dusk whistling a creepy tune, making his way to the house. The show ends with the men scurrying in fear. Scene fades to black."

— Episode Highlight Review

Later on in Episode 1 of 2 for this week, the house gets a security guard to protect the men from Chad. SERIOUSLY? The security guard is not in the best shape, nor does he carry a gun. 87% of the men are in better shape than him. That guy is NOT stopping Chad from anything! He’s clearly there for show.

Some highlights from these two episodes:

  • Evan rats out Chad to the show's host, Chris Harrison, like a seven year old. He literally took Chris Harrison outside to tell on Chad. Is that even necessary? Don’t the show’s producers do that? The result? Chad simply received a warning … and he still received a rose at the end of that episode. Burn, Evan.

  • Evan’s nosebleeds. Classic Evan.

  • Chad confronts Derek in the hallway. Derek looked scared but stood his ground, good for him!

  • Everything about the two-on-one date with Chad and Alex was a highlight. I mean, this stuff practically writes itself! Oh wait.

  • Chad threatened to find Jordan after the show to kick his ass. I do not condone violence, but it sure is fun to watch.

The "Security Guard" Paradox

Despite the house hiring a security guard to protect the men from Chad, viewers noted the guard was unarmed and in worse shape than 87% of the contestants. It was a move clearly designed for "show" rather than actual protection.

In the end, Chad is sent home. Or is he??? I have to give props to the editing team from The Bachelorette. I think they were going for a Friday the 13th vibe for the closing scenes. They had Chad stomp around the forest at dusk whistling a creepy tune while making his way to the house where the rest of the men are staying. The show ends with the men scurrying around in fear after acknowledging that Chad’s tapping at the front door. Scene fades to black. To be continued…

Eliminated this week: Chad (no description needed), Nick (the guy who dressed up as Santa on Day 1), Christian (super fit personal trainer who was also the 2nd to last black guy left on the show, now it’s just up to Fireman Grant to keep the show diverse), and Ali (the short LA Bartender).
