Tracking the Stats

Spotlight’s win was historic for a rare reason: it was the first film since 1952 (The Greatest Show on Earth) to win Best Picture while only winning one other award (Original Screenplay) throughout the entire night.

The Mad Max Sweep

While it didn't win Best Picture, Mad Max: Fury Road was the night’s numerical champion. It swept the technical categories, winning six Oscars including Film Editing, Production Design, Costume Design, and both Sound categories.

FUN FACT: The Oscars is also known as The Academy Awards, and the award is actually called the Academy Award of Merit because it's held by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Academy Award of Merit statue is nicknamed "Oscar" hence, The Oscars. Basically, it's just easier to say "The Oscars". Oh, and the Oscars were first held in 1929 and first televised in 1953.
